Traditionally, lace thread numbers are based on the English numbering system (NE), which corresponds to the number of skeins of 840 yards (768.1 meters) contained in an English pound (453.6 grams). It is therefore logical that the lower the number, the thicker the thread and, consequently, the higher the number, the finer the thread.
